H3C-O-H
The Electronic structure of methanol (methyl alcohol) one of the alcohols states that:
(i)There’s polarization between O and H (coz O is highly electronegative while H is electropositive) hence, the shared electrons between O and H shift towards O atom.
(ii)Now, methyl group (i.e., CH3) is electron releasing group. Coz of this the shared electrons between O n H shift towards H; hence that decreases the polarization effect.
(iii)Here, As there’s an impact on O-H bond due to methyl group why there’s not any on the non-bonding electrons of O atom ( even they are electrons and would go under the process of repulsion due to electron release by methyl group as in the case of O-H bond.)…?
Note: give some logical xplanations and mind it - it's not my homework...!
