Students should be allowed to carry a cellular phone with them during school hours. To prevent disruption of class the phones should always be off. They should not use the phone unless they are on break or it is an emergency. Not a "Oh my goodness, my hair is a mess" emergency, but a true emergency. We have school violence and natural disasters, things that happen not on the average day, but a parent or guardian does feel more at ease believing that if they can find their child or reassure them. So I say allow cell phones, but be responsible. Don't disrupt the class.

No, I don't think that they should be on when the kids are in the classroom. But I do think that they should be able to check for messages at lunch. There could be something going on at home, or with a family member. There are good reasons too for having a cell phone, but when you could be distracted from your work, no, keep it off in your pocket.

No, in fact, kids shouldn't even have cell till they have their drivers license, and use it only for emergency's. The world did just fine before cell phones were so popular. What is this generation going to tell their grandkids they had to do without?????????????????
