Corporal punishment will never return to the school systems. Discipline is a problem for parents to work out and even they don't have the right to "cane" their children anymore in many countries. I believe the solutions to controlling children's behavior will be generated by those people who are currently living under the new conditions. They will know how their parents should have tackled the problems because they are the ones who created them. They will do what they expected their parents to do to them when they were being brats! What this is, only time will show. We are in a transition phase here and all we need is time. It will work itself out, given the time for new techniques that do not require physical punishment to establish a foothold. Older teachers and other authority figures; parents, grandparents and other relatives will be replaced by younger ones with new methods of communication and solutions for establishing control at their fingertips. Civilisation will take another step forward.

When I was in school they used a paddle, and it seemed that the kids that got swatted on their backside were no worse for it. I believe that their should still be punishment in school, and the kids and the parents need to deal with it.

we had what they called "swats" in jr high, basically a couple of swats on the butt with a paddle, and if you got in trouble you could choose detention or swats, almost everybody chose swats, just goes to show kids saw detention as a worse punishment than being hit

Nah. You'd just be favoring the masochists that way. The best kinds of punishments are psychological.
