I have 2 kids, a 3 year old and a 5 year old. the 5 year is now starting to learn to read and I am very excited cause he just read a little to me.. I was wondering if getting Hooked on Phonics was a good idea for both my kids. I want to improve his reading and have a jump start for my 3 year old.
thanks in advance

The virtue I am teaching to my Sunday school class for the month of December is "Peacefulness". Does anybody know of any picture books that teach this virtue?

The only one I have so far is "The Peace Book" by Todd Parr which is great.

Any others that you can recommend?

My 3 yr old boy still doesn't know his colors. I try to teach him almost everyday at home , store , everywhere but he does not seem to get it. He can match them by color so he is not color blind. He just can't name them correctly or if I ask "Show me the red one" , most of the time he is wrong , he gets it sometimes but I think it just by chance . He just turned 3 last month and from what I have been reading he should know at least 2 colors by now. He can count to 10 in two languages, knows all shapes , most letters but I am not sure how to teach him colors.
Also he is very shy with people and likes to throw ripped paper (in small pieces ) in the air . He does that 2-3 times a day. I was wondering if this is some autism symptom?

Can anyone on here give some good day care places that you particularly liked?

In January, I am going back to school and need a place I can put my baby girl. I am still pregnant (38 weeks) so I need a place that offers a program to a 4 or 6 week old.

I'm involved with the Speech Team and was wondering if you could help me. For one of the meets coming up early next year there is a storytelling event. The event consists of the group of competitors each expressively reading a children's book to a group of preschool/kindergarten aged children. After all the stories have been read, the children decide which reader they liked most. I was wondering if anyone could give me some titles of books that just love to hear. In order to do well in this event, I'm thinking that I need a book that is either very memorable or really funny. If you have any suggestions for me, I would really appreciate it.

I volunteer at a preschool two streets away from me every Wednesday, Monday and Thursday (it's the same class and they only have class on those dates).
Yesterday, one of the children was eating his snack when he came over to me and asked if he could have a grape soda instead of the milk that was given to every child. I didn't know what to say so I politely told him that there wasn't any soda here. He shrugged and said, "Maybe Monday."
He then returned to his table and continued eating. I asked the teacher if that was a good decision and she said yes.

I didn't want to lie to him, but what could I do?

He's four years old, what do you think I should've done?

I have mixed emotions because of some people not knowing it means girl and boy and thinking it is meant as bows and bells when they hear the name. I intend to put a girl and boy bear dressed like a southern belle and little gentleman on my sign. What do you think???
