My son will be starting preschool in about a week, and I meet with his teacher this friday. What kind of questions have you asked, and what are some other good questions to ask a teacher in regards to the environment, safety, etc.? I'm a little nervous with my son starting school and kind of stumped on what to ask. Thank you in advance for your help. :-)

This question is for preschool teachers who have an associates degree only.

Did you have trouble getting a job? How much do you make on average? Do you teach at a public or private preschool and why do you like it? Are there any benefits (like free or half priced tuition if it's a private school)?

Again, this is only for teachers with an associates because thats what I am going for. I live in PA and thats all you need.

Thanks!

My daughter brought a note home from preschool asking me to bring snacks for their halloween party next week. I called the teacher to ask what I should bring (My concern is some of the other kids having food allergies) and the teacher said "I don't know what they're allergic to.."

So, what do I do? Just make something and hope nobody is allergic to it?

My friends daughter will be 5 Dec. 3.Her mother doesn't like working with her as far as abc's etc.She doesn't know any of her colors, can sing only about 3 fourths of her abc's.I taught her part of those when I could. She can count to nine. She can't write her name unless you tell her and show her the letters. She doesn't know what animals make what sounds but for a dog and cat.The daughter went a few times to preschool, but was made to mine and now refuses .She tells you ,no,won't listen, doesn't like to sit still etc.My granddaughter knew more at 2 and a half then this child will when she turns five.I tired to help because I care about this little girl.I have been around her since she was born.I think the mother wants her to stay a baby. She has 2 older sisters 9, and 11.They do have pre -k here for 5 years old that aren't quite ready for kindergaurtin. If that happens she will be turning 7 in kindergaurtin.
The school is $5.00 for snacks a month. It's a through a church and is a good one.

Hi! My son is in pre-school and the teacher mentions that he cannot focus more than 5 minutes on a task at hand. This isn't to say that he has ADD - because when he has a toy or game he likes he can play with it for a long period of time (like lego, train sets, puzzles, playdough, racketball, soccer)

It's the reading, writing and listening comprehension that is a problem. Right now they get exercise sheets with shapes or pictures that they have to color in the apple red, or color the triangle green. Which he does well for a bit and then loses interest. It's getting to the point that he is not interested in going to school. He tells me he doesn't like doing it. etc.

He also has a problem with doing what people ask of him if it's not something he wants to do. That probably causes a bit of friction bet. him and others.

I'm nervous that I will have to struggle with him later on in his primary school years when he isn't interested in following directions. etc.

My 4yr old daughter (who is in nursery) sometimes cannot finish her school work, especially in coloring objects because she gets easily distracted. However, she finishes her other school work like math, identification, etc. except only for coloring. She is said to have short attention span. She can't stay longer in her seat. She keeps standing up but obediently return when ask to. But despite being described as having a short attention span, she can easily recall what was instructed to her. Her teacher says her cognitive skill is high that she's recommended to join the kindergarten class & still she did well, except that she kept on going out of her classroom. She has also a lot of fears, sometimes i don't know how to deal with these. she's scared of nosy classmates, scared of swimming in the pool, going inside the clinic & tends to scream when she's in fear. I really appreciate if some of you there would help me with these... or maybe im just an overly-concerned mom

Sometimes my daughter (she's 5 years and in Kindergarten) after coming back from school sits on the bed or in the living room and sets an imaginary classroom and assumes the role of her teacher and give insitructions to students like a teacher while sitting alone in the room. Off course no student at home infront of her. It's all like talking to herself and giving instructions with hands and moves like a teacher in the room.

I'm currently a journalism major at a university, however, my mind is starting to change on the idea of being a journalist. I've always loved small children and have been babysitting/working with them since I was about 13.
I'm starting to think that becoming a pre-school teacher or working in a daycare would be great for me.
I've found the national site for pre-school, but I was interested in hearing more from an actual person who works in a pre-school and/or daycare.
What degree did you need/get (if any)?
What qualifications did you need?
What did you do to get to the job?
Any required license?
---
I'm getting married within the next year, my fiance is military, so I'll probably be working on post or in the nearby neighborhoods. Which is another reason why pre-school/daycare are best for me.

Anything you know/experiences you can share will be great :)

I have a daughter whos three, shell be four next August. Shes extremely bright, and amture for her age. She can already count to 15 in spanish, tell you are name and ask you how you are. I try to teach them (her and my son) by telling them things and just looking for learning opportunities. I believe shes board in her current 3yr old class and this will worsen the older she gets. Would it be wise to put her into kindergarten a year early?
