My friends daughter will be 5 Dec. 3.Her mother doesn't like working with her as far as abc's etc.She doesn't know any of her colors, can sing only about 3 fourths of her abc's.I taught her part of those when I could. She can count to nine. She can't write her name unless you tell her and show her the letters. She doesn't know what animals make what sounds but for a dog and cat.The daughter went a few times to preschool, but was made to mine and now refuses .She tells you ,no,won't listen, doesn't like to sit still etc.My granddaughter knew more at 2 and a half then this child will when she turns five.I tired to help because I care about this little girl.I have been around her since she was born.I think the mother wants her to stay a baby. She has 2 older sisters 9, and 11.They do have pre -k here for 5 years old that aren't quite ready for kindergaurtin. If that happens she will be turning 7 in kindergaurtin.
The school is $5.00 for snacks a month. It's a through a church and is a good one.

I know it's the parent's choice to send their daughter to preschool.I worked in a preschool, a different one and a good one a couple of years ago.I know what is expected of kids starting preschool.Last year im my grandaughters kindergaurin class, one little girl was held back. Also the two older girls are having probelms at school now.The 11 year old is flunking math. The 9 year old cries everyday and says school is to hard .I don't mean to be butting in.In fact I talked about all they need to know now when starting school.I'm not saying anymore to her.The mom is realy going to have a time of it next year when the one starting kindergaurtin decides to refuse to go and thinks she doesn't have to because they let her get by with it refusing to go to preschool an allowing it.I thought maybe by chance she would read some possitive feedback and decide to send her back to prescool or at least help her learn the basics.I guess I just care to much and worry about her kids like my own

I think it's incredibly sad this little girl is missing out on the opportunities early childhood education can provide. As a EC teacher myself I know all too well how much ECE supports cognitive, physical, mental, emotional and social development. With that in mind, however, she is not your child and this parent has the right to choose whether or not to send her to preschool. You can hope she will have a good, caring teacher in K who will take her under her wing and ensure she is set on the right path once she starts her formal schooling years.

she doesn't need to go to preschool. It's just an option. It's not like she won't learn it in kindergarten. Honestly, they won't skip the basic in kindergarten. And that's exactally what pre-k and kindergarten are for, the basics. And besides, kids back 50-60 years ago didn't even have kindergarten or pre-k. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a pre-pre-k. lol.

It is the parents choice.Although I agree with you it is good for children there is really not a lot you can do except keep trying to encourage both mother and child.I work in pre school and we do not expect the children to write their own names that is for the school to teach them as many have different styles.maybe the uk is different.good luck.

The mother won't send the kid to school because she is an irresponsible parent. If you really wanted to push the issue, you could probably get social services after her.

It's not your child & that means it's not your concern.
