This question is for preschool teachers who have an associates degree only.

Did you have trouble getting a job? How much do you make on average? Do you teach at a public or private preschool and why do you like it? Are there any benefits (like free or half priced tuition if it's a private school)?

Again, this is only for teachers with an associates because thats what I am going for. I live in PA and thats all you need.

Thanks!

I'm in PA too. You should be able to get between and 9.00 and 14.00 an hour. I teach Pre-K at a public school this year but I work for Head Start. I absolutely love what I do. One thing you will want to consider is whether or not you want to work year round. If you work for a public school program and it is not full year, you will not be able to collect unemployment in the summer, even though you won't make nearly as much money as a public school teacher at the elementary or secondary level. You might want to consider working for a Head Start agency, or for a program that has full year services. You will probably not find free tuition as a benefit because service providers have to maintain the legal staff/child ratio and won't be able to afford to pay for extra staff because of staff children in the classroom. Therefore, you'll probably have to pay the regular tuition or close to it.

You shouldn't have any problem finding a job, especially if there are some good preschools in your area. Depending on the job market, you may get a job as a teacher's assistant before you get to run the classroom. You can make about $9-14 per hour, depending on the school. Benefits may include a percentage off tuition, but it would be hard to find free tuition. They should also offer healthcare. The longer you stay with a school, the more you will make. It is a tough but rewarding job. Good luck.

I made a starting wage of $10 an hour. I got 3 weeks vacation(two of those paid, the third was winter/Christmas break when the whole daycare was closed.) I also got Thanksgiving, forth of July and New Yeas off. Those staff that had children did get a small discount off the tution fee. This was all at a private preschool. I had no medical or dental benifits, but that is common in private preschools
