I have 2 kids, a 3 year old and a 5 year old. the 5 year is now starting to learn to read and I am very excited cause he just read a little to me.. I was wondering if getting Hooked on Phonics was a good idea for both my kids. I want to improve his reading and have a jump start for my 3 year old.
thanks in advance

I've seen Hooked on Phonics in practice and it really seemed to work. I was watching 4 1/2 - 5 year olds reading simple sentences and they were excited about it. I was astounded! I was a preschool teacher and it was offered at the center with a private teacher. If you stick with it and foster a love for reading at home, it will help a lot!! Anything you can do in todays world to get your child ahead is great! Just don't put too much pressure on them for success! Good luck!

Well
For a simple, step-by-step program that can help your child learn to read visit this site: http://readingprogram.toptips.org

Learning to read at a young age is important for the development of the child. It helps them develop a better understand of their surroundings, allows them to gather information from printed materials, and provides them with a wonderful source of entertainment when they read stories and rhymes. Children develop at different rates, and some children will develop reading skills quicker than other children; however, what's important is that as the parent, you are keenly aware of your child's maturity and reading level to provide them with appropriate books and activities to help them improve.

As parents, you are the most important teacher for your children.

Try this site first and you may not need that. I gave this to several people who told me how effective it was for their child or children.

Read to your children evey day--at nap time, bed time, and any other time you can. There is no reading program that will improve your child's love of reading more than you reading to your child.
