But more people get stabbed, shot, or murdered everyday walking on the street, shopping for clothes, at the park etc... And school shootings, very few, and if you think about it they don't happen very often. Wouldn't your kids be at more risk of getting shot or stabbed being home schooled since like everyday (as I hear lots of people say) they go on bike rides, field trips, library, rec centers, store, etc.. Wouldn't that put them in more risk?????

Please give your opinion.

She's 6 years old and only wants to scribble when using crayons. Her 4 year old sister colors way better. She takes her time and colors in the lines carefully. When they use markers the 6 year old does better and is more careful. What can I do to get her to be more careful when coloring with crayons? Or is this just something kids go through?

Is homeschooling available in Romania, too?

I know about that thing that when some kids won't go to school, or their parents won't let them, they can hire teachers to come at home and make their classes there. But I haven't heard of this lately. So is this still available now? Or not anymore? If it is available, then of course, you have to pay, right? Then how much would it cost? Please, answer! It's urgent! I really need to know this until Monday!

Why is homeschooling such an angry subject?
Every time i read a question about homeschooling, everyone is getting all fired up, no one is rational, all insulting each other. Why don't you all just accept there are some people who choose to home school, and then there are some who don't.
You cant say one is 100% bad and one is 100% good, its different for everyone.
I mean so far i have found homeschooling is best for our family but i do understand thats its not for everyone.
Don't you think theres enough hatred in this world without verbally bashing people because they believe something different to what you do

Why do you home school your kids?
Do you to it because of the bad experience you had in public/private school?
Do you do it because your child has a illness or a learning disorder?
Do you do it because your child was bullied?
Do you home school them because they got bad grades?
Did you do it because your child didn't have any friends?

In my opinion I think home schooling is awesome and so is school and I'm curious to see the reasons other parents home school their children/child and/or send on to school and keep the other home schooled.

All I want is your opinion on why you home schooled, not a fight on whose better.

I grew up in a small town in the northern boonies where we had very little in terms of sports teams, certainly no football team, no tennis teams or anything like that. There were only 2 high schools and the nearest high school outside of town was an 8-hour drive. We had cheerleaders for the hockey team (yes, believe it or not) and that was it. There wasn't much in terms of clubs and most people didn't participate in any of this. I certainly didn't.

There are tons of people who grew up and are currently growing up in similar situations. If the supposed lack of teams and clubs is a valid reason to say that people shouldn't homeschool, then logic would dictate that nobody should live in a small town, especially not in the boonies, nor should they live in any city around the world where these things might not be available.

Are those putting down homeschoolers because of the lack of team sports also willing to put down those who choose to live in places where there are no team sports?

I have been 'bashing' many of you on this board, and aside from being rude, I have not given you an open opportunity to address my complaints with home schooling, so could you answer for me:
Why did you choose to pull you kids out of school and home school them?
What was wrong with the public/private schools? Why didn't you try to change these problems by participating in your children's school?

What made you believe you could do an adequate job teaching?
How to do you grade your children's work? Can you objectively grade your son's/daughter's writing/penmanship/painting? (not the math or spelling, the objective stuff is easy, I mean the quailitaive stuff)
Did you have a fall back plan when you started? What did you plan to do if you could NOT effectively teach your children?
Can you name 3 advantages of home schooling?
Can you name 3 advantages of public/parochial school?
Yes its a tall order, and a yucky essay question
feel free to call me a poopy head if it helps

I've been home schooled all my life (it sucks!) and I'm in high school and I play tennis. I want to play on a JV or varsity team but I'm home schooled and home schoolers don't have JV or varsity sports teams. Is there any way a home schooled high schooler could play on a JV or varsity school team? Is it even possible.

Why doesn't home school organizations have JV or varsity sports teams?

i play on a small town league and everyone there says that i should try out for the high school team( i'm homeschooled). it's possible for me to do so, i'm just not sure that i want to. i'm content playing on the league i'm on. my parents think it would be a good idea for me to try out because i might be able to get a scholarship (but they aren't pushing me in any way). also playing on the high school team would mean practice every day and i'm invovled in so much already. i'm leaning more toward a "no" answer. softball is just a hobby for me, i don't plan on making a career out of it. so any kind of advice that you might want to give me would be greatly appreciated.

My Niece is a Sophomore in High school. She's a very pretty girl, she looks a lot like Jessica Alba. She's 5'9" tall and weighs close to 200 pounds. She refuses to go to school because girls tease her. She wants home schooling. Am I wrong to think that this would be the start of a sheltered life ?
