I thought schools have dress codes, and telephone rules.
Uniforms are the way to go. Kids spend less time concentrating on appearance, more time developing study habits and discipline. They personalize anyway. I just can't believe children apply makeup and yearn for designer clothing as early as elementary school. But, not wearing uniforms teaches kids how to dress.
I think that same sex education is also a good idea for the reasons above, and to remove romantic distractions at such a young age. Studying and after school activities are so important. They need to prepare themselves for a well secured independence. Kids have their whole lives to mingle. Although, I wonder if same sex schools invite conditions like prohibition. I wonder if same sex schooled kids grow up to be geeks?
Well, I'm glad these forms of education are optional.

Yes, I think schools should have a set dress code. There are girls dressed like hookers, boys with their pants falling below their butts so you get to see their underwear... Also, there's just so much competition in terms of what's worn. If everybody just had to wear a white shirt and dark pants, then it would reduce some of the problems in the schools.
(This is the homeschooling section. You know that, right? Were you just interested in knowing what homeschoolers thought?)

Dress codes keep people from being offensive in their dressing. Also most people are judged from what they wear or how they look on the outside. With a dress code it makes it so everyone has essentially the same appearance so there is no judgment until you get to know the person.

Schools should have 'uniform' dress codes. All blue and white or similar to Catholic schools. It keeps the fighting and attitudes down.

While I value freedom of expression in this country, I also value the safety and well-being of our children. With that in mind, I am an advocate of school uniforms.
That eliminates some kid being beat up or killed for his jacket, etc. It also levels the playing field between rich and poor kids.
Kids should be able to relax in school and focus on learning; not worrying about not having the right things to wear or someone stealing it from them. They should also not be judged by teachers or others based on what they have or how they look.
Best Wishes,
Sue

Dress codes keep people from being offensive in their dressing. Even if you feel you have a right to dress any way you want I have a right to not see your "exposure" your right to be free to dress does not trump my right to be free from your choices...
