Why is homeschooling such an angry subject?
Every time i read a question about homeschooling, everyone is getting all fired up, no one is rational, all insulting each other. Why don't you all just accept there are some people who choose to home school, and then there are some who don't.
You cant say one is 100% bad and one is 100% good, its different for everyone.
I mean so far i have found homeschooling is best for our family but i do understand thats its not for everyone.
Don't you think theres enough hatred in this world without verbally bashing people because they believe something different to what you do

No, no, no you do not get what i am trying to say.
I know everyone has their own ideas and there are many pro's and con's in peoples minds about it, this is not what i am asking, i have already made the decision and have been doing so for many years, my mind wont be changed about that, what i was asking is why are people so angry about it on here?, on both sides...theres no rational discussion...people for it give us a bad name because they get so worked up about it they make us look like madmen and people against it make themselves look pretty bad too. I just wonder why it is such an emotional issue, people do worse things to their kids than home school them, we should be joining forces and getting angry about that.

I agree with you.To many much more important things to worry over.
Also, home schooling isn't right for everyone but it is for my son.Everyone is entitled to their opinions but no one is entitled to down someones beliefs.

You paint with a broad brush. I have seen many posts that do not bash, but explain situations and recognize that each family chooses what is best for them.
While some posts do unnecessarily bash others, I do find that it is the people against homeschooling that do it the most. And yes, there is too much hatred in this world. ANY amount of hatred is too much.
Personally, I don't think anyone should say anything one way or the other, except to answer questions from people asking how things work. We should not expect everyone to agree with us.
The reason people get emotional is because they feel threatened by someone who forcefully disagrees with them. I'm not threatened by someone who does not understand the choices I've made and jumps to conclusions about homeschoolers. I will answer their questions and tell them my experience.
Somehow, when we get to Heaven, I doubt the criteria for our entrance is going to be what kind of school we went to as a child. :o) It's important to each family while on Earth, but not so much in eternity.
God Bless,
Sue

I think that the main trouble is that people don't know what is going on. The times that schools were for education is long gone. Just look at the spelling at this web site. No, school is to prepare you for a job, a slot to fill in. Go to school: School is in at 8.30, short break at 10, lunch at 12 etc.The kids are being taught already the discipline required by the big Companies. And since they donate big money to your representatives they make sure that the government makes it clear that homeschooling is bad. And this is propagated by the news media. So a lot of people are against it, not because of conviction but because they cannot give or take. Home schooling is fine. And there is plenty of time to do sports or other hobbies for socialization. Live and let live.

I have to agree with you. My son is finishing elem. school this year and I have been looking into homeschooling. Fortunately I have found a web based program, with some live help available locally and tutoring help. But i've noticed that when I mention homeschool to other people its looked upon so negativevly and others are very supportive! Just find other parents who DO homeschool and also educate yourself on how the school system is... once you do, am sure you will make the decison to give them the education yourself.

The questions are defensive because alot of people try to belittle the parents who chose to home-school thier children which belittling them for it is plain wrong because school or some kids can truly be the worst experience for people because alot of people don't know how cruel kids can be others just don't care
I agree with jennifer l's answer except I went to a traditional school and am still withdrawn and thee alot of kids that stay on thier own because the fact is some of them know if they go near a group they will be bullied big time which is a very big problem

I must say I have experienced a few families that home schooled their children, and they were all close families, the kids were intelligent and well rounded, and very, very polite with loads of respect, which is something that is lost in today's society. The only drawback I see is not enough socialization, and the kids tend to be withdrawn around strangers. This is just my observation, it may not be true of all home schooled children.

I personaly feel like home schooling is better for my family. Like you said, it is not for everyone. I happen to be a single teen mom. I can not work, take care of my daughter and go to a public school at the same time. For others it is different.

It is really difficult to judge whether written words are meant in anger or not. Unless someone says, "I am angry" or uses harsh name calling I'm not sure that they are bashing. I try to read things in the same way that I write --with a sense of calm.

yup, yup, very true... in my opinion those totally vehemous ones against homeschoolers are just extremely jealous. i was homeschooled my entire life and my siblings were too. and i know a lot of other families who are homeschooled too :)
the best parts? 1, everyone of them are doing well in life, doing further studies in universities or getting respectable jobs. 2, we treat non-homeschoolers like our friends and are treated back as equals too--in fact some of my "non-homeschooler" friends find us to be equal to or better than them :)
