you are 'duing' a report on drug exposed infants?
There are 2 general categories for this: illegal drug use by the mother during pregnancy and prescription drug use that caused birth defects.
You should examine both. For illegal drug use, include alcohol. Fetal alcohol syndrome is a major cause of birth defects
For prescription drugs, you should include over-the-counter drugs as well. So there would be OTC drugs with previously unknown birth defects. There are birth defects from prescription drugs.
This may not be in the scope of your paper but should be included. There are a lot of problems with 'fertility' drugs. Though not considered a birth defect, these have been known to cause multiple pregnancies (3,4,5,or more) endangering all the unborn kids and the mother.
If you need to focus on sources of birth defects, similar to drug exposure, you can investigate environmental hazards, such as high mercury levels in drinking water. Though not (perceivable)harmful to adults this is very harmful to unborn babies
each separate subject can be investigated through wikipedia
you can also use homemd, or other medical sites
Organize your research. First (EVEN before stating research) write a thesis and an outline that will support you thesis. Organized thoughts make organized papers. Cluttered thoughts make cluttered papers
If you want me to proof your outline or your paper, send it to me in MS word format
good luck

Most of the time, the baby will test positive at birth. They cry a lot with stomach cramps - they straighten out very stiff, experience withdrawal. Some are affected worse than others, some may be okay in 3-4 months, others are affected for life, even with some retardation Many of the babies are listless, you might think they are deaf. Some are unable to learn in school, need special teaching. It takes a lot of care and special attention for a "drug baby".

Sure, a lot of people do, after you collect all that data, interview a nurse in the neonatal unit of any hospital , a social worker from your local heath center or aids unit and see a special education teacher you will end up with a very powerful paper a perhaps and new passion for helping others.

My cousin lived with us while she was pregnant. She smoked pot like a joint a week while she was pregnant. Up until the last month and she stopped in case they did a drug test at the hospital. She was very irritable when she didn't smoke and felt like she needed it to control her stress levels etc. Well, her baby was born fine. Birth weight was great. Her baby is 2 years old now and is so smart. She knows her abc's, how old she is, says full sentences, can follow complex orders etc. She is very smart. I don't know if it was the pot, but I do know that the pot couldn't have hurt the baby considering all I've seen. I don't know about other drugs, just this one.

Do you mean babies born to addicted mothers? Do a search on crack babies. There has been extensive research done on these babies. I believe the result was that most grew up with no deficiencies.
