You walk on the side of the road going toward the traffic. That way you see the traffic coming and can move aside if necessary.

Bicycles move with the traffic and are considered a type of vehicle. Always have good lights and reflectors when riding at night. I've almost hit kids at times because they have no lights and little reflectors that you don't see until real close.

Best Wishes,

Sue

Walk on the left side of the road, so that the drivers behind you can go on without worrying about or you trying to see them. The drivers in front heading to you, well, you can see them. So on the left side of traffic. Unless there is a sidewalk. Or you are riding a bicycle, in which cause, you go with the flow of traffic.

It depends on rules of the road for vehicles. If they take the right side of the the road, then walking on the left side would be safer. It is because you can see the vehicle passing next to you. The vehicle coming from behind will be on the far side of the road. This avoids accidents caused due to vehicles hitting the pedestrians from behind.

On the side where the closest traffic lane is coming toward the opposite direction you're heading. This helps us recognize sth ahead and what is coming so we can move away or jump, or run away when things hit.
