I am finishing up my MA in International Relations and want to get my PhD in political science. I'm in the NYC area now, but places like Columbia and NYU just dont seem right for me. I've also looked at UCLA, U of Chicago, Cornell, Northwestern, etc and I just don't know how accepting they are of alternative views. I don't want to be the freak on campus. I went to Purdue to get my BA, so it doesn't have to be a super conservative school, just a "normal" campus. So far I thought of Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, and George Washington....but I need a lot more than that! Thanks for your help

im considering going back to school and getting a business degree. i have a full time job and dont have the luxury of going the traditional college route. im afraid the only way ill ever get my degree is if i get it from an online program. does that online degree hold the same weight as a traditional one in the employers eyes?

If you are a high school senior applying to UCLA, and in your transcript you have written that you got a C in chemistry, but have had straight A's and B's all your other classes, and have exceeded the 'A-G' requirements. You also have good SAT scores, an ACT. Will they still take you in?

Even if you dont plan to major in that subject.

I will likely be graduating with two B.S.E. degrees, one in electrical engineering and one in computer engineering in the spring of 08. I really want to go to a top grad school so I'm looking into applying this December. I will probably graduate with a GPA around 3.8/4.0 overall and about 3.95/4.0 in my major. Hopefully I'll do well on the GRE and will be able to get 3 solid letters of recommendation. The only problem is I have no research experience whatsoever. What are the chances of getting into a top program such as MIT, Cal-Berkeley, Michigan etc. with no research experience?

now, this might come off as a naive question, but it makes me wonder...would going to ucla for a bachelor's degree and then going to usc for post-grad/dental schooling seem...odd? usc would still give me the same look over as they do to applicants of other schools, right?

idk..i just think about this quite a bit

I've asked several people about this, and I get different answers every time. When colleges ask for your high school GPA, are you supposed to count your 9th year grades into the average too? Will 9th year grades affect their decisions whether to accept you or not? What about cuts or referrals?

I am an English major with a few publishing credits under my belt and am a (newly minted) staff writer for my community college's newspaper. I love writing and want to become a better writer, which is why I want to get into Yale's writing program, or go to Harvard. Both have been life-long dreams of mine and I've been busting my rear since getting out of the USMC last year.

Any one who goes to either Yale or Harvard and know's about the writing program at Yale and Harvard's writing programs?

Thanks for any help.
