Many people today take advantage of government assistance programs like WIC simply because the program is available and because they qualify. The same people do not necessarily need assistance. Just because it is legal, is it ethical?

I finished college in Jan. 2003. Upon graduation, I was able to consolidate my loans from my previous schooling with my new loans. I then defered the loans. This is going to sound ridiculous, but it's like the loans vanished. (Aside from my credit report, of course). I had the same address for 3 years following graduation. I looked into contacting them, but when I would enter my information, it would say no such person found. I am embarrassed to admit it, but I then, after trying to figure it out for about 3 months, gave up. I still can't believe I never recieved a payment booklet or a statement or anything. I finally just recieved a letter from them (almost 4 yrs later) in the mail informing me that they will offset my tax refund (which is fine), but I would like to set up payments and take care of this. If I call, are the payments going to be really high? (I owe 45,736). I really want to pay it, but we live on one income and could not afford a $400 payment. Any advice?

My father passed away, his property was sold and the liquid cash was set up in a testmentary trust for me which my aunt controls as the trustee. I do not have direct access to this money.I did not earn engough money on my own, so I have had to take money out of the trust. My aunt could deny me any time and even use this money herself legally I am told.Who owns this money and should I report it on my fafsa?

I'd like to get the first few months paid out in advance so I have time to find a job and not worry about rent right away. Also I need money to pay for book and lab fees. My scholarship pays for the rest. If I go through my bank.. will they write the check directly for the place, or will they just give me the check. How does it all work???

I want to go to this summer program/camp. You can earn college credit and looks good on my college application. It is somewhat like a "once in a high school life chance" because few are selected to take advantage of it. The only problem is ... it is about $2300. My mom won't pay for it and I can't get that much money by summer (I am going to be a junior...but right now I am 15...no job for me.....) My idea is to write to certain businesses for a donation. What are some good tips to include in my letter? Is there certain businesses that I should send my letter too? Thanks!

Trying to find some of the more obscure scholarships that are available to new students?

I was accepted to Loyola University Chicago, and they gave me a $30,000 scholarship (~$7,400 per year) already. However, tuition costs ~$27,000 per year, and this doesn't include the cost of housing and books etc., which bring the price up nearly 10k more. I am 17 years old, a senior in high school, have a relatively packed school schedule, and make about $70 per week...half of which goes into keeping my car going. In my savings account, there is about $800, and that is all I have to pay for my college with. On my FAFSA form, the expected contribution is 11400 or something high, so I know I'm not eligible for a Pell Grant. However, my parents are not helping one cent with my tuition or any other college things. I have checked out Loyola for other scholarships and am not eligible for any of them.

I really want to attend LUC this fall, but it feels like I'm all out of options! How can I get more help to go to Loyola, or what alternatives do you suggest? I'm at the end of my wits!
