My mother has recently told me that she hates my personality and thinks I'm a loser. This was followed, quite abruptly, with her declaring she will NOT help me in any way whatsoever with college. She earns 190,000 a year, so financial aid is limited. I am sure that from an objective point-of-view, I am far from a failure. I have a 3.98 GPA, have consistently taken AP and Honors classes, am in NHS, am Editor-in-Chief of newspaper, am President of my high school’s Amnesty International, VP of Model UN, President of Lit. Club, Secretary of Key Club, play Varsity Lacrosse, and have continuously made trips back to China in order to promote awareness regarding the social stratification that exists there.

This whole thing was quite sudden and I just finished junior year. I don't have any means to really recover.

Any advice on how, exactly, to manage myself would be appreciated.

Btw, I have no contact w/my biological father, who is somewhere in China.

And I'm looking for lenders in the U.S.A. not across seas because i'm not trying to pay a residential fee to get this loan matter of fact im not trying to pay any thing to get it and also I want to have my payments deferred until 6 months after I graduate which will be May 2008.

I am a nursing student at USC and at the end of my second year my school basically told me that they made a "mistake" and I should have been charged out of state. Imagine my confusion, shock and outrage. I have lived in SC since I was 14. Their answer? My parents had moved a month before school started. Everyone my parents talked to during orientation and so forth were informed of their moving but no one bothered to tell us this. I am now almost $34,000 in debt. To be payed by graduation or I don't graduate. I can only receive so many loans per year and I'm scared to death that I will not have enough money right now to even continue school. I still have 2 years to go.
Does ANYONE have any advice? An organization or person that will donate? I have already spoke to my school's residency office, financial aid, assistant dean, student services, a lawyer and have even sent letters to my state senator and legislator. Not many listened and less even tried to help.

I struggle to make my way through college when girls my age who have popped out a kid or two get grants and foodstamps. Not only that but they constantly whine about how hard it is to go to school with a child and work. There is always one of these girls in one of my classes and it angers me to no end! Why do I get less when it comes to grants and loans just because I utilize birthcontrol and work fulltime? Bah, it just doesn't seem fair - there is no reward for responsibility.

I am 30 years old (single, no dependants) and have started back to college to try to finish my bachelor's degree. For medical reasons, I've only been going to school part-time, and have not been working. I also currently live with my parents who claimed me on their taxes. They are unable to help me with school so I've been attending on Pell Grants. I have an opportunity to interview for a part-time job at the university library. How would this affect my Pell Grant? I'd appreciate any feedback.

I found out when you're a dependent, your residence is based on where your parents live...which in my case would not be the same state I want to est. residency in. So, now if you were classified as independent -I read you have to live solely on your own income for a year before being able to apply for residency. On the other hand, I also read if you are living solely on your own income, you would be allowed to pay in state tution regardless of how long you lived in the state...So is it you would pay in state tuition for that one year but not be allowed to est. official residency until that year is over?
Also, if you are an independent, and you want to file the fasfa for financial aid, would you just skip your parents info if you're supposed to be independent? Would putting their info down (given they live in another state) also disqualify you from becoming a resident even if you're an independent? Who would be the person to talk to for this?

I am looking for clubs or activities that offer scholarships if you work hard and participate. I am looking for activities besides sports since sports here are pay to play. If you know a club that offers scholarships for hard work and participation please list it. Thanks.

extremely difficult juggling my family and classes. Nursing school looks like it is going to be even harder. I know I can not work while going to school. Does anyone know of any loans or options to help get me through these next two years? We do not have very good credit from when we were younger.

Here's the whole deal:
I'm moving to miami and I need an affordable apartment(ideally less than $700) near the Miami International University of Art and Design. I also need furniture for the apartment and any creative ideas to make this whole ordeal easier would be very much appreciated. Lastly, the biggest issue of all, what savvy ideas do you have regarding my financial issues for paying for tuition, room, and board? Thanks all!

If all the lottery profits are going to the schools than why when the budget needs to be cut than why is it tbat schools are the first to lose money? We need the money for schools and now they say that there is not enough money for the schools. With all the money that is spent on the lottery you would think that there would be enough money for the schools. Why is this I just saw a commerical that said OVER 600 MILLION went to the schools last years. I just do not get it.

I am 23 and have been out of college for a couple years, having a child and getting married and all, but I recently decided I would really prefer not to be a server for the rest of my life, so I am going back to school this fall come hell or high water but I have a couple questions, when I was in school before I had scholarships that covered everything so financial aid wasnt really a concern but now it definitely is, I filed a fafsa online and got my SAR, it says my EFC is 2608, anyone know what this means? My husband and I make an ok living so I doubt I will qualify for much but I also know I can not afford to pay for everything myself, so heres my other question, will I be able to get a student loan if I have bad credit? I am going in to talk to a counselor at the college sometime this week but I want to go in with some idea of what to expect so any thoughts and comments are welcomed, thanks in advance!
