I found out when you're a dependent, your residence is based on where your parents live...which in my case would not be the same state I want to est. residency in. So, now if you were classified as independent -I read you have to live solely on your own income for a year before being able to apply for residency. On the other hand, I also read if you are living solely on your own income, you would be allowed to pay in state tution regardless of how long you lived in the state...So is it you would pay in state tuition for that one year but not be allowed to est. official residency until that year is over?
Also, if you are an independent, and you want to file the fasfa for financial aid, would you just skip your parents info if you're supposed to be independent? Would putting their info down (given they live in another state) also disqualify you from becoming a resident even if you're an independent? Who would be the person to talk to for this?
