Education & Reference - 25 February 2007

Most of them had no idea what this even meant!! They had no idea how to use a reference library, had never seen the yellow pages and didn't have a clue how to use it, and had never read a local newspaper. Is this just a bit scary? Do we need to get back to teaching good old fashoined research techniques?I think this is a pretty urgent problem.

Have you ever heard of a PhD student who did not write much/anything for a long time and still managed to obtain a degree within a UK 3-year full time PhD programme? For how long? What were the circumstances?

(Of course that is unadvisable and untenable, but at this point I could use some real-life examples)

I mean it's ok to help them out , but I've noticed a lot of them get on here (especially young ones) and get their answers. Is that really helping them, or are they just writing down what they read and not really learning? I'de be interested to here what teachers have to say.

My 8th grade math teacher asked us to make a rap...?

Ok ...she asked us to make a "math rap" to remember math rules, the order that you do a math problem...ect. if the past form of will=would , shall=should , can=could so when we use then to implying the past form? what's diffrent of " I should have told you" and "I should tell you" and "I shall tell you"
