I'd received financial aid for 2 years before, but now, my school considers me ineligible for fin aid because I didn't fulfill the satisfactory academic progress policy. I was taking 12 units instead of the mandatory 16 units. I'm currently writing a letter of appeal, detailing why.

I had transferred into my current school with a 3.7 GPA. During my first year, I was involved in an extremely detrimental relationship with someone who was emotionally abusive and resulted in me having to deal with an abortion by myself. Consequently, I lost my focus in school, withdrew from 2 classes, recieved bad grades and my GPA dropped drastically within one year. Since then, I've removed him from my life and I've been working hard to regain my former GPA, earning A's & B's.

The experience was an extremely personal and painful one for me and I feel that I should include it in my letter of appeal, but I'm not sure how to or if it's appropriate. Please help!

I was recently informed that I have to write a letter of appeal to receive financial aid. I was getting it before, but I had a death in my family along with other personal issues that caused me to sink into a deep depression. If I write the letter and include a death certificate, will they also require me to provide a doctors statement proving my depression? The thing is, I didn't see a doctor...I just want my letter to be approved. Any suggestions?

My husband and I have decided to move back to our home state. I love my daycare children and parents dearly. I don't want everyone to leave all at once. We have just put the wheels in motion. We have set the date for putting the house on the market, the summer of next year. By that time, most of my children will be at least two.

Not just I but a lot of my friends who travel extensively to the US feel that most Americans have very limited general knowledge and some of the statements they make just amazes us. We have even noticed most dont even know the Capital city of their own Country.
You ask an average American as to what is the capital of India - 99 out of 100 ( leaving aside the Indians who have settled down in the US ) will have no idea ( Its New Delhi - by the way ). Why dont the schools emphasise on General Knowledge as a serious part of the studies in school. It is only a few who travel a lot come out with some answers but look dazed when you ask them some questions which even a child in India could answer.
This question is not meant to offend anyone but just out of curiosity. From what I have noticed most Americans live in a "closed" concept where they just know about their own surroundings and the moment you start discussing other things - they are stumped. Why is this so?

I have seen where security was needed. A student brought in a weapon to hurt someone and I feel that if that school ( Middle ) did not have security someone would have be hurt that day.

They still used a thing called corporal punishment. To the best of my recollection I got paddled about five times in elementary school and I think once or twice in middle school. What about the rest of you? How many times were you paddled in school? I am especially interested in hearing from you victims of Catholic School.

I have seen several people even on here who can't even spell simple words, do you think that illiteracy is acceptable in our society? I'm not talking about a few fragmented sentences or misspellings, almost complete illiteracy.
