It has to be a state or government issued photo ID, such as a passport, drivers license, etc. You can't use things like a work ID, or just a SS card. Be sure to check the ID is legit, especially if you've never met the person, because if you notarize something for someone and you didn't collect the required information, you could face several things, one of which, your privilege of notarizing could be revoked. You should also be keeping a log of who and what you are notarizing, along with the date, and if/how much you charged the person to do it. But you can't charge too much, only like a dollar or two, not even worth it. I don't charge, never have. Hope this helps...

Well, the Secretary of State's office in your State should have given you a handbook with what was required for I.D. Or, you can do a search for your state "Secretary of State of [your state] Notary Division." That website will tell you what I.D. is required.

Needs to be a STATE / GOVERNMENT Issued PHOTO ID
License, passport, Military ID... And if it is tampered with - you might not get what your after...
