Your question doesn't specify whether you're focusing on the teaching part of education, or the learning part of education, or both!
The personal computer is probably the most significant (and obvious) invention that aids in education. As a teacher, I use a document projector in the classroom almost every day, which saves on paper and is a big improvement over the overhead project that used transparencies. But the piece of technology that probably gets used the most in my educational setting is the copy machine!

learning programs, such as Phonix or whatever thing that was for people that cant read, online math games or spelling games (crosswords, xudoku), simulators, such as flight school simulators, driving sims.
