The only information I have is that the square has diagonals of length 8 cm.

Oh c'mon! Smiddy hasn't had geometry for 20 years! but this is basic. Pythagorean theorem states that on a triangle A-squared plus B-squared = C-squared where C is the hypotenuse. The hypotenuse of a triangle is the diagonal bit if it's two halves of a square and we know by definition that on a square A and B are equal. Therefore 2X squared = 8-squared or 2x^2 = 64

x^2 = 32
x = sq.rt 32

the area of the original square is x times x so you're back at 32 square centimeters

Use the Pythagorean theorem, divide the square in half makin the hypotenuse the 8, and then figuring out the 2 legs. Remember that both the legs will be equal since it is a square. Then work from there.

Using pythagorean theorum, 64= a^2 +a^2 or 2a^2 (the 2 sides of triangle are same), so 32= a^2, so square root of 32

If it has diagonals then it's not square.
You need the distance of 2 sides, multiply the 2 side to get your answer.

Side length is A. Pythagorian theorem says
A^2 + A^2 = 8^2

2(A^2) = 64
A^2 = 32 is the area (A^2)
