They still used a thing called corporal punishment. To the best of my recollection I got paddled about five times in elementary school and I think once or twice in middle school. What about the rest of you? How many times were you paddled in school? I am especially interested in hearing from you victims of Catholic School.

yes, during the formative years i think it is a good idea; people just simply need a good a$$-whoopin sometimes, as long as it is within reason and the rules have been clearly laid out for them. a teacher i knew in 7th grade used to paddle someone once a week and i didn't see anyone reacting in any way but with respect and just plain fear. as people grow older i think the whole corporal punishment idea should be used only in certain circumstances. there is nothing like unjust "punishment" or retribution for actions within one's own prerogative to make you extremely pissed off and seek vengeance. if a cop ever told me to bend over and assume the position i'd either start laughing or take his ***** badge.

I went to a catholic school until the age of 10, and their weapon of choice was a cricket bat beaten against your a rse.
After that i was at an old fashioned grammar school that had very victorian attitudes to punishment, a cane was the official punishment (even though the government had banned it by then ) but some of the teachers had other ideas. I remember one teacher poking a kid in the eye with a pencil. Another enjoyed sneaking up behind kids and smashing their faces on their desks.
To think i had to pass an exam for the privilage of this elitist center of learning !

I would not consider myself a victim as a graduate of a Catholic school. I am lucky to have parents who were able to provide me with a private education. When I arrived at undergrad, I didn't even open a book and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. The people I know who went to the public school I was zoned to failed out the first semester.
I was never paddled. I knew better than to act contrary to the rules.
And, as a teacher, I'd love to see your reaction to a "child" cussing you out and threatening you physically---I guarantee you would love to see corporal punishment reinstated.

I went to Catholic school from 1st grade to 3rd...Myself I never got paddled...back then they "The Nuns" Hit you across the knuckles with a folded up yard stick... Hey remember the Clicker...the Nuns would start a clicking and you knew full well you had better straighten up. I myself stayed out of trouble..but I saw them take out there frustrations on others. Those nuns were brutal. In the Sixth grade I got swatted by another Student from my Class..TheTeacher, gave him permission...every time I messed up this math problem she had me doing at the blackboard..It was humiliating..
The next time I was in Junior High....I got swatted by the gym teacher....I forgot what I did but she offered me the option, Stay after School or take 3 swatts. I took the swatts...She was a strong woman..she used a paddle drilled with holes. Actually this Gym teacher liked me...It stung so much It was all I could do to hold back the tears.

I got paddled twice, once for getting caught chewing gum and once for getting in a fight....there are still some schools that do it, but you actually have to sign a waiver to allow it. Some schools ONLY allow males to be paddled, is that fair? Personally, I don't think so.

I went to a catholic school in England where they used corporal punishment (it is no longer allowed). The cane was used to punish serious misbehaviour - 3 strokes across the butt was the usual punishment. I was lucky never to get it myself but many of my friends were not so fortunate.

i went to a private baptist school and was constantly beat...it was with a wooden paddle and my@ss was always black and blue...(no exageration) they were extremely strict (in which i agree with) but they always went over board with me...i was a handful but didnt always deserve that! i was there between 3rd through 8th until i showed my mom all my bruises (but she had seen them ever since the 3rd grade) but i guess she finnaly woke up and took me out of that school...there was quite a few times i would get them more than 3 times a week and sometimes twice a day.one time i tried sticking football pads in my pants but the principal found them and i got more...hell at least i tried...the whole wear 5 pairs of underwear didnt work...one of the guys who spanked me all the time was an x-football player for the rams and weighed about 350...all musle and about 6 ft 5...man that sucked...thanks for the bad memories..now i must go lay in the fetal posistion and cry while sucking my thumb!!!

I went to a private school and I was paddled twice for bad behavior. I didn't dare give attitude to my teachers after that!

They didn't spank me in school, they called my parents and had them do it. I'm 34. I think it should be re-instated. Kids are getting out of control. I believe in corporal punishment for my kids and they are very well behaved.
