I've tried Straits Cafe, Penang Garden, Banana Leaf, and Red Kwali and a few defunct ones, but none have been satisfactory to me. I'm looking for something at least as good as "Penang" of New York Chinatown; heard they've opened a Penang in So.Cal but not in the Bay. Has anyone else come across a good one around here?

Friends will be visiting SF for the Folsom Street Fair/Leatherfest in couple weeks; plane, hotel room booked. Have already hit Google and found couple restaurant links. Now refining search--HELP!!!

Looking for reasonably priced eating places for use during the Fair---geographic area is South of Market District, between 7th and 12th Streets.

They also plan to do: Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown (both adore Peking Duck, BTW), Japantown, Ghirardelli Square, and Napa Valley. Any really great "dining experiences" in these areas, that DON'T require a 2nd mortgage on a house? I'd like for them to have the best time possible and do NOT know the city, so any insider information would be great. Thanks!

Will post addt'l data when avail abt preferred food types; assume moderate prices for most part, with 1-2 really nice dinners (little black dress/tie and jacket).

Ill be in San Fran on Thursday Night. I dont want to do the Tourist stuff or chain places. Im looking for a cool area with good eats and fun places to go after. Things that a Local would do rather than a Tourist.
Any suggestions, weblinks and neighborhoods would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance!!!
