The House of Prime Rib! The best good old american meat you'll ever have! It's a bit pricy though. If you're looking for something SUPER casual though, you could always go to the famous Mel's Diner. San Franciscans claim that they have great burgers and fries, and the best breakfast in town!

I would say that Fog City Diner on the Embarcadero is the best place that is non chain. But there is a nice local chain called Max's that is pretty solid. There is also Houstons which has a few locations but not what I would call a full blown chain restraunt. I hope this helps.

Cheers, Scott

Maverick. Best restaurant of 2006 San Francisco Magazine.

I used to think American food was boring... but then came Maverick. Everything made better than your mother could make it.
