castro is where to go.. . i've been to the clubs at night there.. there are actually tons!!.. and there are some eatery's and shops there too.

There are really no "Gay Spots". San Fran is a totally awesome cultural town with no boundaries. You can go anywhere in the entire city and not be judged.
If you are really looking for a good spot, check out the Castro district.

I was just there: -imo, Alcatraz is really boring (though the boat ride is nice) -Legion of Honor Museum had some interesting exhibits (and a surprisingly good cafe) -Presidio Park had a very scenic trail with views of the Golden Gate Bridge -Golden Gate Park/Haight Ashbury was rough and stuck in the 1960s but interesting -Union Square was expensive and touristy, but nice -Fisherman's Wharf was expensive and touristy,but lousy For restaurants, the cheapest ones I went to were Cotogna & L'ardoise, Cotogna had great ambiance and food, L'ardoise had great ambiance, but only good food. P.S. You probably won't be taking cabs but they are really expensive. $50 one way airport to downtown. Hope this helps

The Castro! It's actually really fun and lively, I think you'd like it. There's a great theatre there that seems really popular and is definitely visually appealing (everything is so colorful!)! I suggest going at night. Also, right before you enter the Castro on the south end there is a GREAT sushi restaurant, it's pretty hip, with GREAT food. Check it out!

Isn't almost all of San Fran a gay spot? Just walk downtown. LOVE San Fran, not gay though :)

Just head for the Castro District !!!
You will find a safe spirited area with lots of restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping, etc

go to the north beach area, its not "the gay area", like lakeview in chicago, but its good and you will find that san fran is just overall gay integrated into the city
