Where are you from in the US and beyond? Why do foreigners tip so little when they are told on the plane that tips are not included in the meal, as they are included in the meal price overseas? Why do foreigners still refuse to tip accordingly? It seems they try to act clueless to save money....yet servers hear the accent and KNOW they will be slighted. Also, why do southerners tip so poorly? Is it for the same reason foreigners do?

OK, so you arrive at a regular restaurant, regular time, lunch time, sit down, order drinks, read the menu, drink arrive, order taken..... then wait....... how long is a reasonable amount of time before you get pis'd off? I think that 20mins is reasonable 30mins is pushing it.

I have eaten at three different El Torito Restaurants in the past two years. Normally I have no problem with Mexican food anywhere else, even in little "hole-in-the-wall" places. For some reason, each time I ate at an El Torito I got symptoms of illness ranging from mild stomach upset to all-out fever and chills (on one occasion it was so severe that I had to take off work for two days to recover from what appeared to be food poisoning). The food I ate was all nicely prepared, served hot and quite tasty. The premises seemed to be clean and no visible problems.
I was just wondering if anybody else out there has had a similar experience at this or even another popular chain restaurant.

I run a computer consulting and service company providing onsite support and new product delivery. I personally provide hands on hardware, software, and networking support... Why shouldn't I get a tip after doing a good job while cab drivers, waitstaff, hairdressers, car wash attendants, etc... expect one? Is doing one's job worthy of a tip? How about if they do a bad job? Everyone seems to expect at least 15% if not 20%.

(Please don't give me the standard waitstaff answer of your reliance on tips for a living due to lower pay rates. Indirectly, it is your fault for allowing the restaurant industry to lobby the government into excluding you from minimum wage laws.)
