I'm considering switching from Comcast to Direct TV. All I really want is something comparable to Comcast's regular programming such as all the main networks and things like the history channel, fox news, discovery, etc....Does Direct TV even offer these networks? Thanks.

When I was purchasing what I thought was regular writeable DVD discs, during checkout I was told to make sure my computer will be able to use them because they are +R, not just regular DVDR's. Is there really a difference? Also, I was wondering what the different numbers mean. I bought 16x, because I assumed that was better than 6x and 8x. Thanks!

I have AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 that I am using to burn my DVD's. About half of them burn just fine...but the other ones either get pixilated throughout or they burn fine for a few chapters then "stick" and won't play several. I've tried burning at different speeds but it hasn't entirely alleviayed the problem. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I recently subscribed to BT Vision and very quickly succumbed to temptation and opened it up. Inside I found a 160GB western digital hard drive attached to the ‘motherboard’ by an IDE cable. After attaching the drive to my pc, and some searching around, I found what seemed to be my recordings made from the TV.

I attempted the play the files on the players installed on my computer (Quicktime, Real, Windows media, Nero Showtime and VLC) but only vlc actually opened the file and the pictures and audio were severely garbled, but this at least confirmed that they were the files I was looking for.

Each of the files are exactly 1GB in size and have the file extension “.slc”. After searching at length, I can’t seem to find any codec that will support this format nor any reference to what it actually is. Does anyone know what this file format is and how to play it on PC?

I know you need to do it to play your CD/DVD on a different computer/TV, and that it means you can't add any more data, but what is it actually doing? What is your DVD burner doing to the CD/DVD when it finalizes it?
