i just put them in like a cd then go to media player and play it

Your computer probably already has the software on it to play DVDs. For example, Windows Media Player.

If it doesn't, you can download a free program called "VLC" that will play them.

In any case, a DVD has to be decoded during playback. VLC has a software decoder built in.

What is your concern with a decoder?
