I bought a Freeview box, it was supposed to work in my area, but it didn't.We even checked for compatibility on their website before buying the box.Ask around your neighbours before you buy one, see if they have it and what the signal is like.I ended up sticking mine on Ebay.

Hi the easiest way to check is on the Freeview site, link below, even if it's not on a nearby transmitter it may still be possible to pick up. The easiest way to check is to ask an aerial specialist, as a general enquiry, as there may be a low signal from a further away transmitter. I am in a no freeview area and get a few channels, we do have an aerial box and signal booster, not the cheap plug in one's, but a normal aerial. Your aerial should be a digital aerial if it's a new bungalow so it may just need repositioning for a digital signal from elsewhere. Do you know anyone who has digital in your area, if not it may be a waiting game.

It's unlikely your roof aerial is good enough to receive freeview if it isn't available in your area yet. A Sky dish is the only alternative.

However, there are two other problems with this. One is the "want" aspect. You should be asking yourself, do your children "need" this TV. The second is "in their room". Why in their room? Can't they just watch TV downstairs like everyone else? That way they learn to share TV time and maybe watch less junk.

If you have no Freeview in your area, then you can't get it - no matter what.

How can you improve the signal, when there is no Freeview signal to improve? What you are asking is impossible.

You will have to wait until Freeview broadcasts reach you.

it depends on the gain of the aerial

i would check first if anyone else can get it in your place,

i have heard of people having problems but would tend to find you need a new high gain aerial on a good pole to give you height and then that should work.

failing that just get a digital sky system with multi LNB and wire into the bedrooms you require you get more on sky free then you get on free view and if you can install a digital dish and system yourself you can pick a good second hand one up quite cheap these days just the multi LNB on the end of the dish is not so cheap.

borrow a freeview box of a friend and try, the post code search is not always correct, or ask your neighbours fit hey have one and does it work ok
