When I walk in the house I would like to be able to look at the answering machine (phone) and see if there are messages. I do not want to have to pick up the phone and listen to a tone to hear whether or not there are messages waiting.

Does anyone know if there's an answering machine that monitors the dialtone to see if there are messages and then shows a light when there are?

Thanks. (Verizon is my local service provider)

I want to get one for my Mum but I have realised they are mains-powered, not battery. Do they switch off after so long? Do they use much electricity (what if you switch it off but leave it on at the wall power-point?).

I think they are a nice touch to a room but if they use too much electricity I'm not bothered. Any help appreciated..

My photographer gave me one free 8x10 print and a disc with 4x6s of all my pics. However, when I take it anywhere, be it Kinko's, to a Kodak Photomaker or a reproductions place, they can blow it up, but the resolution is lost and all those little squares show up. He charges $35 dollars per print!!! and I don't think he can put me name and contact info on it. I don't have a scanner, a color printer, or a CD burner. Did I get screwed?

I see a lot of people leaving their cds 'upside-down' when they don't have a case for them, as if somehow the bottom side of a disc scratches easier, but somehow i think that this is the wrong way to do it...

Just wondering as I've just bought a HD DVD player, which is upstairs in my room with the HDTV, but can I also play them like on a regular DVD player like downstairs? I heard that they are double sided and can be played on both... it would also be good as I usually watch films at other people houses and they don't have HD DVD players

I hate having to buy two different items that are nearly the same..
fax = scanner
fax = phone
fax = printer
therefore ...why not a fax/scanner/printer/answering machine + wireless phone (base).
I'd really like to be able to control it via a wired network as well.
