I have a teac AG-V4200 hi-fi/amp/receiver and whenever I play sound through it, it goes into stand-by mode. When there is no sound playing, it works fine, but as soon as sound starts playing, it turns off. Please can someone help i'm desperate I really need it!

Your speaker wires may be shorting out to the metal back. If the receiver detects a short, which could even be a single strand of the wire, it will shut down. Take a look at the terminals where the wires are connected and see if they are frayed. Also, look on the speakers, too, because the short could be there instead of at the receiver.
