DVD Shrink works very well and its a free download!

Take a look at http://www.1clickdvdcopy.com/. The software works out what compression is needed and copies it to your blank DVD. It isn't free, but it isn't expensive either, and you can download a 10 day trial to test.

If there is protection on the DVD you might also need to install a DVD decrypter like DVD43 which removes this protection. DVD43 is free software - see http://www.dvd43.com/

dvd shrink for making the video fit on a standard dvd, most movies are almost 2x as large when they are made commercially, then a suitable buring program, most dvd burners come with some type of program, roxio, nero , etc

try DVD shrink or DVD decrypter , I mostly use "shrink" as it is easy to use, and works 9/10 of the time with DVD's you can buy!
