Referring to the question above, my answer would be affirmative. However, one comes to question the exact meaning of the word obsolete, going by the first definition on dictionary.com: no longer in general use.
Referring to past examples, we have seen as the technological world progressed to the world of Computer Discs leaving behind LP records (previously used to keep songs and played on the Gramophone), Floppy diskettes (i remember storing all my school projects in them and looking them up the the 3½ floppy A drive), Video tapes (which i so fondly cherished and often used to record various television programmes). Similarly, Cds are the better storage device.
However, with the advances in technology, Cds have become an inferior good and Memory cards/thumbdrives have taken the lead, being far more economical and higher in space and are now considered the"normal" good (refering to some economic terms here) These normal goods are competing with the not so recent DvD's that are bound to lose in the fast pace advancing society.
Memory cards can do everything a Cd can, (except being played on older version of computers and Cd players {obviously}) They are far more compact and less bulky making it more ideal now that our society has moved on to "smaller is better" even with those MP3/mp4s, voice recorders, camera, handphone and even ipods have come out with the nano (which stand for 10^-9) quite some time ago.
Hope my answer is adequate and has answered your question^^.

I am sure it will happen, but not as soon as we all think. Too many people are still driving cars with radios that are not compatible with all this new technology. I would imagine when every car regardless of cost or the options you put in it, are "ipod compatible," than we can say goodbye to CDs. That should probably take about 4 - 5 years. Plus all the accesories to use MP3 players are still way to overpriced which indicates that it is still concidered a luxary as opposed to a norm. I predict that in the nect year, those prices should start dropping...allowing more and more people to use the devices, thus sparking the change in car radios.

I doubt they will become obsolete anytime soon (and if they do it will be to DVD or Blueray not memory sticks) Memory sticks have one inherent flaw, they are magnetic in nature making them unreliable for long term storage. sure they will hold your songs for a while and they are great for transferring data..but as a system backup or reliable program storage not so good
