I'm trying to help a friend and he did a clean install of Windows Vista Ultimate from Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. We tried booting the disk and it has repair windows or install windows [vista]. we dont know what to do so far.

I need to reinstall windows because someone did the system restore and now the computer isnt working right, but I cant find my windows disk, so how can I get it reinstalled? I was planning on selling this computer so I need it working right.

Ok so, yesterday I attempted installing xubuntu on an old comp. It booted up fine, but I was being guided with the help of a relative online the relative had to leave, and now Im left half way done. Im partitioning my 10GB maxtor HD manually and Am completely confused. He mention something about 700mb to swap and the rest for ext2 but its accesing for a mount point location begining or end and im just confused need help to get this thing running!

My old computer is running xp, but barely has enough ram to run xp. So I'm thinking about installing Damn Small Linux on it. I'm wondering how great of an OS is damn small linux? And can it run all the same applications as other linux operating systems, such as wine?

I am trying to put together two combo boxes, Combo1 and Combo2, the content of Combo2 will depend on the selection made in Combo1, for example Combo1 will have 10 items, once an item is selected Combo2 will have different sub selections relating to that item. I know you can do this via Validation, but the problem with that I have about 4000 options in the combo1 and about 60000 in the second, here is the structure of my data:

First Option /Second Option
Option1_____1.1
Option1_____ 1.2
Option1_____ 1.3
Option2_____ 2.1
Option2_____ 2.2
Option2_____ 2.3
Option3_____ 3.1
Option3_____ 3.2
Option3_____ 3.3

My ultimate final result should look like this, two drop down menus once Option1 is selected second drop down form should display these options:

Option1 /_____ 1.1
____________ 1.2
____________ 1.3

Example being in the 1980's there wasn't one dominant force in the OS industry, like it is now with Microsoft. My main question is will it ever go back to being where a company like Microsoft does not own 89% of the OS Market? More of the percentage of 25% maybe while another handful of companies own at least 10% if not more.

I have a load of files that are in tab seperated format that i need to load into a spreadsheet so i can sort the order by columns. I have excel which handles this simple function fine but cannot load large files (some i have are approaching 200mb, which ram can handle but excel cannot it seems.)

Is there any freeware/shareware/cheapware that could do this for me, but is more "lite" so i can load larger files into it?

I'm running XP home on a machine with 1gb ram at home and 2gb at work, i need to work on the files at both locations.

when i get into my xcel and highlight the file i want, in the file name box i get many chinese/japanese characters. i can not read them but when i click, i get the right file i wanted. do i have a virus in the excel? i have run every security thing available but i still get those oriental characters. it never happened before. it started yesterday.
