Does anyone know where to get a free download of 2004 version. When I do searches all I come up with is either the service pack or pay sites that want $40.00 and up for a program that was free through microsoft.I am told that virtual pc 2007 will not work on windows xp home (which is what I have). Is this correct?

The original program was not freeware when it first came out but was changed by microsoft to free licence.

Virtual pc 2007 should work with xp home. It's just not supported, there is a difference. I had vista home premium, which isn't supported, and it worked fine. I only got a warning that my OS wasn't supported. It just means that microsoft won't help, you if you have trouble with the program. Also, when you create a virtual machine, click settings>networking and set it to shared networking. Otherwise you might come across an IP address issue

Go to the microsoft website. I don't know about 2007. I have 2004 and love it, although I will tell you that it sucks Ram and CPU cycles.

Link coming.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx for 2007. Look around for 2004.

I'm telling you that it is free. The person above me does not know what he is talking about. He just assumed. If you pay $40, you are a fool.

You will have to download Virtualbox, which is free. But you will have to buy another Windows XP license to install to virtualbox. Although, they officially stopped distributing licenses for XP some time ago.

Virtual PC 2004 is not freeware. You must purchase it to be in compliance with the law.
