Does anyone know whether or not you can save dvds on to a iMac, and how this is done?
I put a dvd in, and copied the folder into my documents, waited about a half hour for it to copy, and now I cant open it. I tried opening it in quick player, and Itunes, but it will not let me open it with the dvd player.
Is this even possible on the iMac? or do you need to specifically get a dvd burner?

I am planning to upgrade from Windows XP to the new Windows Vista. What I was wanting to know is, when I upgrade, does Vista just replace my XP OS, or does is re-format the entire hard drive and I have to start from scratch again. I checked on Microsoft's website, but I couldn't find anything that talked about this issue.

For example, if I have a 100 MB RAR file, how do I divide them into four 25 MB RAR files such that they are interconnected and that you would need to extract only one file to get the contents of all the four files?

I, like many other people I'm sure, am totally fed-up with the whole Microsoft corporate $hit, and the constant problems with XP and so forth. I don't want to buy Vista, I don't see how it'll improve my experiences with my PC, as I mainly use it for gaming, skype and a few other bits n pieces, plus I expect there be the usual security problems and incessant updates for this and that.

I'm considering switching to Linux, but really need to understand the implications of such a switch - how will it affect things like games?

I already use as much open-source stuff as poss, Firefox, OpenOffice and so on, it'd be great to finally be rid of Microsoft once and for all!

I have tons of picture files, but my Canon digital camera names all the files the same thing... like

10101, 10102, 10103...

Then when I start taking puictures again, it renames all the pictures the same thing, causing files to be writen over if they are ever put into the same directory.

Also, the name "101101" doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot!

If there is a program that could do BOTH of the following, that would be awesome!

1.) insert date into file name (eg, if file created on may 3, 1996, insert 19960503);

2.) concatenate an additional descriptive tag into the file name (eg, if a set of files were taken in LA might encode them as LAX):

For photos taken in LA between March 5-6, 2004:
10102 => 20040305LAX_10102.jpg
10103 => 20040305LAX_10103.jpg
10104 => 20040306LAX_10104.jpg
10105 => 20040306LAX_10105.jpg

For photos taken in NYC on NYE'06-'07:
20134 => 20061231NYC_20134.jpg
20135 => 20061231NYC_20135.jpg
20136 => 20070101NYC_20136.jpg

Friend of mine fancy learning typing & I wonder if anyone around could possibly recommend me the one that teaches TYPING (not TEST the speed), from very begining.

First stage of typing such as learning one line such as "asdf (space) ;lkj" & then the next one such as "qwert (space) poiu". Finally the bottom line, i.e. "zxcv (space) mnb". This is how I learnt it.

Is there any software that teaches typing by getting us used to with one line at a time & then practicing text all over ???

hi guys, recently i worked on a friend's pc and i ran "sfc /scannow, all was going well but just before having the blue bar to fill the little window the system asked me for the windows media center cd, which neither my friend nor me have, i canceled out of it.
now every time the pc is powered up the system asks for the cd, one can x out of it but next time we power the pc it will ask again, is there anyway to cancel the window asking for the cd ? we haven't been able to find a windows media center cd.
