Easy, open the picture in MS Paint first. Click "File... Save As" from the top menu. Then when the popup box to save appears, click the down arrow to the right of the box labeled "Save as Type". (It will be towards the bottom of the popup). It will show a list of different types of files you can save the picture as. Click on JPEG, then name the file, and then click the "SAVE" button. Presto!

Open the picture in paint program and save it with the .bmp extension. For instance you name the pic as flower then you would save the picture flower.bmp (this will change the the jpg image to .bmp) let me know if it works.

You can't change the file directly from WORD. One way of doing it would be to copy the clip art and paste it onto a picture program such as PAINT. There you can edit anything to your liking. Then, under File, you go to Save As, and under file name you make sure the file type is set to JPEG instead of Bitmap.

Open it in Paint. Then when you save use save as. At the bottom should be a file type designation and there you can choose a different format.

MS Paint or some sort of photo-viewing software.
Then change to "save-as" and desired file type.
Or you can use Photoshop.
