Software - January 2007

I've been trying to make photoshop my default editor. If try "my computer>tools>folder options>file types" PS is not an option in the list of suggested programs. if I select the PS.exe file as my selected program, my PC ignores this and carries on using whatever prog i had in there prior.

I am having problems with Windows XP randomly completely freezing. I was thinking that it could be RAM, but when I go into the Event Viewer, it has the same error at the exact time of each of the crashes. It shows the source as Tcpip, and the event as 4226. Could it be the network card? Any ideas? Thanks.

I have to shorten a song on a CD for my daughter's talent show. I have to alter the song in the middle (erasing part of the song). Does anyone know how to start burning the song, stop the burning process, then start it up again later in the song? It needs to flow like it was never stopped.

I'm running Office 2000 on Win XP. The drop down font list in Word will only show 3 default device fonts. Excel will show the whole list, so at least part of Office knows where they are. Is there a registry entry that is messed up? I've already done a deinstall/reinstall on Office so we can skip that step.

Yes, I tried the menus. But, when I double-click the "Norton AntiVirus Installer" icon, it does nothing; then, a Finder pop-up says there is no Application to make it open. So, I use the "Show package contents" feature on my Mac, but there are several .pkg files on this. I unpack all these files, and finally find the app, but it says that it wasn't properly installed. I ask this question for two reasons: 1. Has this happened to any of the few Mac users on Yahoo, 2. Is there any way to open the installer or an app that can open the installer?

I want to make an icon for my myspace that says "I hate my pictures so here's my icon =)" I can't find anything similar to that, so is there some way I can make one? Or can you make one? Or do you have any better ideas as to what I should put on it? If you can make one for me I want it to look awesome. I don't want to have to download any software to make it either.

Is there any way your could reserver say 4-5% of CPU for task manager? I have found some programs and situations that hog CPU and freeze the system so that it's difficult to impossible to even bring up the task manager. Is there a way to tell Windows to only go to a certain percent and always reserve some CPU for getting to task manager?

I have this program called Photo Studio 2000, it's a good program but the other day someoen uninstall it out of my computer, i have this sfotware already when i first bought the computer, it go with the computer. It's already in the computer so i don't have any kind of installing disk.......so nmwo i lost the program. Is there anything i can do to get it back?

Once again my computer is letting me down and I've had to back up all my music files onto CD-RW's as I don't have an external hard drive. After I've restored my computer, how can I put files back on without having to create a new folder for each file?!

I want to uninstall a program that requires an uninstall code to be able to remove it. It's one of those internet filter programs that keeps people from looking at bad webstie, but that's besides the point. I do not have access to the adminstrator username or password, so I can't call them to get an uninstall code. Is there a back door approach to getting this program off the hard drive? It's called Safe Eyes.

I was using my laptop like normal yesterday, just going through some websites. And then I opened up a folder and I noticed something weird. Whenever I tried right clicking on a file, it would give me limited options. It wouldn't give me the usual "Open" or "Open with" or "Explore" etc, it would just show "Extract" "Add to archive" the usual winrar options. And then all of a sudden I tried again and I couldn't right click at all. So I closed the folder and reopened it and it was even worse. I noticed parts of the folder were missing. Not like literally missing but stuff that was supposed to be there wasn't there. Like the whole section that says "File, View" etc was gone and the whole left side of the folder was gone. So I closed it and opened up firefox and the browser was all black for some reason.

Later I tried to open up winamp and I noticed I couldn't minimize it or click certain buttons on it. And when I tried to start a chat on Skype (instant messaging program) I couldn't. It th
