Go to download.com and download o&o defragmenter. Comes with a 30 day free trial, and yes, it will make your pc run faster and smoother if your hard drive is fragmented 10 percent or more

I like Diskeeper 11 Pro Premier. Just with all Diskeeper programs it integrates seamlessly into Windows and will also prioritise yr defragmentation in terms of files most accessed. A very good product which can be set to work in the background. I think their marketing buzz-phrase is 'set and forget'!

You might just need to update your Processor. There is a new 1GB processor that came out. It's super fast even though it's kind of pricy and also make sure to check your computer for spyware/viruses. Also make sure you don't have any background crap going on. To do that you go to Start-Run and then type msconfig when you get there click on StartUp and uncheck any program that you think it unimportant such as weather bug, AIM ICQ LImewire or anyother crap. You don't need them to start up w/ you computer. Then restart your computer and see if that problem got better. Good luck!

I recommend IObit Smart Defrag. It actually does make your computer faster; I've noticed it. Go to www.iobit.com to download it for free.

But to speed up your computer even more, I recommend Advanced Windows Care V2 Personal (or Pro). You can get that at www.iobit.com or www.download.com. What it does is it fixes your computer and gets rid of spyware, adware, temporary files, and manages start-up programs. This was the program that saved me from going nuts about having a slow computer. It works great, you can fix your computer with 1 click as they say.

Good luck!

If price is no object, and you really want the best (which will ONLY be needed if you HEAVILY use your hard drive) then I recommend PerfectDisk by http://www.raxco.com/

I will not say anymore, simply Google PerfectDisk and read the praise for this incredible program. (Again, though, may I repeat, most folks don't need anything more than the MS program unless you are a true Geek and like to play; nothing wrong with that). Good luck.

defrag software does not speed up your computer... all defragmenting your computer will do is make stuff load faster, essentially not speeding up your computer, it won't make a very big difference in speed unless you use ur harddrive a lot, and if it's an extremely large hard drive...

If you are looking for speed, upgrade hardware, not software

Defragging is highly overrated. Use Microsoft's defragger and if you see a difference in performance you will be the first person in history to do so,
