Is there any way your could reserver say 4-5% of CPU for task manager? I have found some programs and situations that hog CPU and freeze the system so that it's difficult to impossible to even bring up the task manager. Is there a way to tell Windows to only go to a certain percent and always reserve some CPU for getting to task manager?

You have to either buy a better CPU, or get more memory (RAM). You should have atleast 512MB of RAM for good performance. 1GB is recommended. Thw more RAM, the more space there is for programs to run and the more faster your computer will go. But the CPU matters, too, so you need a fast CPU. Atleast 1.5GHz of processor speed is recommended, but 2.0GHz is better.

Good luck!

Not that I know of. First, go to task manager and identify which programs are hogging the resources. Do this by clicking twice on the CPU column heading of the Processes Tab. Disregard System Idle Process as that is normal.

Then you need to delete those unnecessary processes from starting up. You can do this in Start>Run>msconfig

Restart the computer and press F8 and goto "Sart WIndows Normally" and press Enter.

Don't forget to run a Microsoft update also and make sure you aren't missing any high-priority updates. I have found that resolves the CPU going crazy also.

A lot of these pgms just come with some softwares u installed and automatically run with your "startup". one good way to do it is to run "MSCONFIG" command and then go to start up and uncheck any programs that u dont recognize, re-start your PC and then it will be smoother
