Software - November 2006

For no apparent reason. Usually when I am not at the machine. I have to reset or sometime reboot.
Any idea where to look in event logs etc just to try to determine whats wrong.
People have suggested that it might be a power problem, or a mother borad probm

My hard drive is partitioned. Windows XP is in C: and Windows Vista Beta is in D:. Both work ok, but i want to unistall the beta version of Vista and eliminate the boot menu screen. I want it to start normally as it used to before i installed Vista Beta. Can i just format D from XP? Will that eliminate the boot prompt screen?

My computer has been having problems for months. Everytime the screen saver would go off, it would crash and the last time it did that it seemed to be fatal. A few days ago, it would start up and if we tried to click on something, it would crash. It wouldn't open any file on the computer, folders wouldn't open. Now when i try to start up the computer, it doesn't seem to start up all the way and freezes.

I started looking for a new computer months ago but my sister wants to try to save the one we have...why? i don't know.

I am trying to edit DVD files. This is not a DVD i purchased but a DVD i recorded with my DVD recorder. It created .VOB; .BUP; & .IFO files. I know the .IFO is an information file (not sure what it holds) but I am clueless after that. I would like to edit the video (cut out sections, splice two videos together etc etc.). I have Adobe Premier but it doesn't like .VOB files. What should I use?

On my computer my USB ports are not working, and I get an error that I am missing dc120usd.dll file. If I put windows xp and ran system restore and restore it to when it was fairly new will that restore the missing dll file, if not how can I restore that file?

When I downloaded the new internet explorer 7, somehow my version of bearshare got wiped out and didn't even show on the add/remove list. I downloaded bearshare again and there was only one choice to pick from. I hate this version, how do I find my old version of bearshare?

My computer has installed something all by it's self and i can't get rid of it. The program does not existsand i can't deinstall itbut it shows me a mesage that says- CRITICAL SISTEM ERRORS! I burned a cd-r using windows media player but it will not play either in my car or my home stereo. the latter one states"no cd in drive". Is the format wrong, and is there a way to solve this so I can transfer my playlist music to listen in my car?
