If I try to type normally (in Mozilla Firefox, at least), it comes out all weird. I'm typing this on AIM and pasting it into the browser.

I think the virus is preventing the system from accepting any anti virus installation. I have purchased the 2006 version of Norton anti virus. but the drive will just not read.

I have a laptop using Windows XP2 which I use regularly at random networks from a fraternity house, in college classes, to my home. Needless to say, I am not sure how secure the networks are:

These programs run at system start up:
Total Security: Paid Norton Security Center
AntiVirus: Free AVG AntiVirus
Firewall: Free Zonelabs Zone Alarm

These programs run once a week:
AntiSpyware: Windows Defender Beta, LavaSoft AdAware, and Spybot Search & Destroy

I run Limewire for P2P now and then. I browse the internet with FireFox. I update regularly for windows, firefox and all of my security. I also game regularly online.

My question is: does this sound safe? What else can I do? I dont want too many intrusive programs taking up tons of RAM, but I would like to be secure, as this new laptop is my only computer. Are there any free programs out there for college kids that are good for protection? Or do I have enough stuff running to protect me?
Thanks all.

when i maximise the norton internet security window from the system tray, and i click on the anti-spam window it says "system status: refreshing". the screen stays like this but it doesnt refresh it. the anti-spam function therefore doesnt work. when i click 'turn on' an eroor comes up saying "unspecified error. : res//program files\common files\symantec shared\antispam\nasplug.dll\nasstatus.htm: 1066". the symantec website said i should reinstall the program. i did this but the problem still occurs. how do i fix this? please help me please!!

My Norton Internet Security 2006 subscription has expired. I object to paying £35 (US$65) to renew my subscription. I've heard that resetting my system clock to a few months back will solve the problem for a while. I think I know how to do this, but should I do it? Won't doing this cause problems with other programs? Should I just uninstall norton and download AVG instead?
