My Norton Internet Security 2006 subscription has expired. I object to paying £35 (US$65) to renew my subscription. I've heard that resetting my system clock to a few months back will solve the problem for a while. I think I know how to do this, but should I do it? Won't doing this cause problems with other programs? Should I just uninstall norton and download AVG instead?

Resetting the clock won't do anything. Best to look for a free antivirus (yes, there are several that are good)
I use Avast (free) I'm sure that others will have their favorites listed too.

reseting clocks are old methods and may not work now,if it works too then you might have problem while updating it.
I don't totally agree your comments about Avg but it is okay, not poor too. What i Feel is Avast is pretty good antivirus and kaspersky is also super, Use any one of Them.

Most likely that won't work - I recommend downloading avg free - a free version available for home use. www.free.grisoft.com

No, I tried that once, and it didn't work. I think they use their system clock to check when it's expired.
