I've upgraded from normal XP to XP Pro x64 to use the capabilies of my AMD 64 chip. However, there are no 64-bit drivers for my scanner or webcams. The only way for me to use them is to dual-boot. Is there a way to use them inside x64? Could the drivers somehow be modified to be accepted by the system, or could I log in to my other OS from within x64 to gain access to these peripherals?

I'm looking to buy a relatively fast, self feeding (that is you don't have to lay it on the scanner itself) scanner that is not outrageously expensive. Does anyone know of a good one?

I have a Microtek Scanmaker 4800 that uses a 12V 1.25A power adaptor, which did not come with the scanner when I purchased it used. I've been using dismatching power adaptors but they always get both the scanner and the power adaptor hot if I leave it for too long. Apparently 12V 1.25A model is discontinued and everywhere it says out of stock. Is there any available adaptor with other specs that will work with the scanner? Thanks.

The software I got with the scanner is for Win 95/98. I have WinXP so I tried Compatibility Wizard but it can't read the disk.
I also downloaded software from Mustek but this consists of 5 files and I can only manage to install the first one.
Any suggestions ?

I have an Acer ScanPrisa 640P with parallel port connection. I have recently managed to obtain the driver for the scanner, which was compatible with Windows XP. Earlier, my OS would not detect the presence of the scanner. Since installing the new driver also did not help, I took the advice of a forum and changed my 'BIOS settings' so that the LPT port worked on 'EPP'. Now, I managed to get the computer to detect the scanner (it's still not present in the 'Device Manager' however.) Now, everytime I try to obtain an image from the scanner, the image-editing program (such as Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady) that I have open at the time closes immediately after the MiraScan splash screen is shown. It only seems to work in Microsoft Word, and even then the quality is not good. What's going on, and how do I fix it? Arghs, this scanner's causing me a lot of pain. =( Thanks for any help! =)

Right. So I have an Acer ScanPrisa 640P, and it's been in the family for about ... 5 years. I have an installation CD for something known as 'MiraScan', which is the 'TWAIN-compliant' driver for the scanner. Anyway, I've installed that, and I've tried to scan in a document, but even though the connections are proper, the computer still doesn't detect the scanner. I've tightened the connections -- and I've noticed that the printer is connected to the scanner, which in turn is connected to the CPU, which I assume is the proper way of doing this. I was wondering why the computer wasn't detecting the scanner, and whether it has anything to do with the fact that my driver is 'out-of-date' (it's compliant with Win 95/98/NT, apparently). If this be the case, why won't Windows detect the scanner, like it normally does? And where can/should I get a new driver? Thanks for all the help! =)

My aunt wants to convert old photos to digital by taking a picture of them with her digital camera instead of by scanning them. I have tried to convince her that you lose the quality of the photo, but she refused to listen. To get through to her, I need to find information I can forward to her (i.e. third party validation) for her to believe me. Does anyone know where I can direct her (website/book/article) to show that she should scan all the family photos?
