I wish to scan slides and save them to file to edit/crop/enlarge etc. in Paint.

Unless you've got a Transparent Materials Adapter, you don't.

The scanner on your All-in-One is a reflective flatbed scanner. To scan transparencies you need the adapter to shine light through them.
