Put your XP disc in your drive.
Follow the prompts .
1: Select the partition you want to install your operating system onto.
2: Select FORMAT in NTFS. This will Format your whole disc, this gives you a clean install.
DO NOT USE quick format as this does not format disk, this just writes the beginning of your disc so that the operating system can be written over old data.
3: Confirm that you want to format
4: XP will install from here.

I want you to be aware that formatting the drive is going to remove all data. Ok, knowing that, here is the sequence.
Put your XP disk in the CD drive and restart your system. XP should "boot" from the CD. It will load some files and then ask if you want to install Windows now. Don't. Read down a little and follow the instructions for removing the partition and then creating a partition. When this is done, Windows will want to format the drive. Let it. After the drive is formatted, Windows will automaticly beging to load Windows. From here on, just follow the yellow brick road. There will be a couple of places where Windows will need a little input from you, but for the most part It just simply installs its self.

You can go to Maxtor.com and download
PowMax4.23 to a floppy disc. Insert the floppy
disc into the pc and re-boot it. Follow the instructions and it will erase your entire hard drive.
Then you should be able to install Windows and then use your Recovery disc to bring back what you had before you lost it.
WARNING: This will erase everything on your hard drive!! But, it will reformat it and you will be able to install Windows and then use your Recovery disc.
Good Luck,
ED
