and im not sure wut this similar plug is for. i doubt its for this scanner..but im not sure.... anyway..any tips on how to get it working!?

Have you connected the USB cable from the Scanner to the USB port on your computer?
If not then the scanner isn't connected to your computer and that is why you cannot use it.
If it is and you have run the disk that came with it, try rebooting your computer and it should detect the new hardware.

Hi,
depending of the Windows version your are running you need first to install software drivers before you plug-in the new hardware (scanner in this case)
Consult the hardware manufacturers (Cannon) web site to see if there are software drivers to install.

Try installing the software it came with, Like the drivers. Or download off the website.
