Some say I need to update the video driver? is it something that can be down loaded, or , do I have to buy it? If so, how expensive is it?

I bought a new Acer X171 17" LCD plug-n-play monitor because my old CRT finally died. I run Windows XP and the computer is eMachines from about 2001. Gig Intel Celeron processor, 3D AGP Graphics from Pentium. The problem is that after Windows loads and is running, the image on the new monitor is twitchy or jumpy (shaky?). Clearly it's a setting in Windows that is making it do this because when the computer is first started up the image is fantastic. Even when Windows is loading, the image is just perfect. The issue only presents itself when Windows is actually running. What am I missing? I set the monitor exactly how it said to in the paperwork but it's still weird, constantly. What can I do to fix this?

Pleae help me - my eyes are starting to go buggy because of this! :)

I just went to Fry's Electronics (a West Coast electronics warehouse). I was looking for LCD monitors for my PC. I was price conscious and the sales guy told me the monitor I was interested in had real low contrast ratio. I asked him what it meant and he just told me it was better to have higher contrast ratio. I told him I wanted a monitor that was going to "last" and be durable without burning out anytime soon.

He told me that the higher contrast ratio LCD's would last longer. Is this true? Or is he the typical Fry's sales guy who doesn't really know too much. Thanks.

Well there is a thin yellow line (about a millimeter width) going across my monitor verticly (up and down). It is at 3/4 of my monitor to the left. I took a screen shot of my screen, checked it on paint and the yellow line wasn't on the picture so it's something with my monitor not my computer. I have tried to restart my computer I even took it out of the power outlet completely. Please help, it is a LG flatron 17 inch widescreen monitor and it is only about 3 months old.

I have a MacBook, and there is oily residue all over the screen. Every time I wipe it with my microfiber cloth, it just spreads it around or makes it worse. I've even tried using water and running alcohol. Any ideas on how to remove this oily residue?
