well... you see, i had sound before my computer broke down and i fixed it, but i don't understand why there isn't any sound.
Oh yeah, and i also have a set of speakers, I've plugged them in the right places and even remembered to plug in the plug this time, but it can't seem to turn on...

maybe that's the problem?

i need some help here... can someone please help?

It could be one of three things:

1) Maybe they are plugged into the wrong place - most soundcards have anywhere from one up to seven (possibly more!) places to plug speakers into. Most of those are only used if you have a surround sound system set up...
2) The soundcard (or the chip on the motherboard if that's what you're using) could be fried - then you will have to replace the card (or get a new one if you don't have one)...
3) The speakers themselves could be dead - in which case, you are pretty much SOL ;);)

It sounds like you may need to plug the speakers into a outlet as well. Most external speakers use and outlet as well as having to be plugged into the computer.

Hi, right click "my computer> and go to properties>hardware>device manager

do you have a question mark or exclamation by your audio device. You likely just have to go get the driver for it from Dell or whoever you bought the computer from.

You can also try running windows update and see if they have it. More often than not windows has it.

Note, if you already downloaded it from windows and its not working, go get the driver from the manufacturer. Windows update drivers will often break things as well.

hope that helps
